Hello to Bakshi Land:
It's time to get your ideas for some questions for Mr. Bakshi.
I'd like anyone who feels their question is appropriate to suggest it.
Please only suggest one question. I will post another of these after the next interview is posted to get another round of suggestions.
Also, please understand that there are a lot of questions on the site already, it's fine to suggest an unanswered one from before. Just remember, you only get one suggestion per Question Suggestions Thread. Any additional questions from the same member will be deleted, so make the first one good.
I will sometimes ask questions that I've gleaned from earlier posts in this forum too.
I will do my best to get as many of these into the interview session as I can. Also, be aware that the ability to chat with Bakshi is entirely at his discretion. There are going to be stretches where he can't be reached. Please don't post any "Where's the interview this week?" questions. They will come when they are conducted. I hope you all enjoy them.
Be sure to check whether your question has already been answered by using the Search function located at the top of this page, as well as checking the Exclusive Interview Links Thread for previous interview answers.
Realize that you must be member of this forum to post. (thanks to spammers and hackers)
If you have a question and you just don't want to join the forum, you won't be left out. Simply email rabbit@ralphbakshi.com and I'll do my best to include your question with the regular members'. (But joining is advised )
Thanks,

Ralph,
In the 1980s, you stated in an interview that you wanted to expand your repertoire into the live-action medium to further establish yourself as a director. In later interviews you've given, you've stated that you prefer to work with animation and never wanted to make live-action films. What made you decide to change your mind, and why were you interested in directing live-action films in the first place? _________________ Watch me dance!

1. Ralph - how long did Mentor Huebner work on LotRs & do you have any stories about him?
2. Any really rare stuff in the new book?
3. If the new book is a success, would you consider doing one devoted solely to your LotRs? It could really help set the record straight on how seriously you took the project & how many amazing people you got to work on it.
Thanks! |

dear mr. bakshi
i'm a 20-year old guy from switzerland and just got accepted in a animation college in toronto. of course i'm very happy about it but also a little bit scared. probably because my main influences in the animation field were always people like bill plympton, bruno bozzetto and yourself, who just did, what they believed and didn't care about big budgets, studio systems etc.
i really have to say, i would prefer much more to make my own independent animated films about subjects that really matters rather than working on... i don't know... some other dreamworks crap... i just don't know if there is really any chance for underground animators to survive today... this isn't the 70's anymore...
You've been able to produce a whole bunch of really personal projects. What would you suggest? For example: what do you think should a budget for a animated Feature like Wizards look like today? Do you think modern technology makes producing a feature much cheaper and easier than 30 years ago?
Thanks for your time!
sincerely |

Dear Ralph,
What was the guy who did the voice of Fritz (Skip Hinnant is is name, BTW) like? I know you brought him up in the gallery when it was still up and said he was a great, fun guy, but I want to know more. Anything you can remember would be great.
-Astrid
P.S. On the old gallery you said he had red hair but I saw him on The Electric Company (PBS show from the 70s) and he had blond hair. Did he really have red hair when he voiced Fritz or did you misremember? _________________

Dear Mr. Bakshi,
In an interview you gave earlier this year on a New York radio station, you said you tried to make an animated special out of Bill Mauldin's "Willie and Joe" comic strip. Is this true? Was there any preproduction done for this? _________________ "It is better to shut your mouth and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt" - Mark Twain |

Fantasy has obviously had a large impact on Ralph Bakshi's film-making. Besides The Lord of the Rings, what other novels in the fantasy genre influenced him in his film-making? Does he have any reccomendations? _________________ "A stripper putting her clothes on ain't beautiful unless she's ugly to begin with!"-American Pop

Mr. Bakshi,
What was the On The Road feature about? How did it come about? _________________ "It is better to shut your mouth and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt" - Mark Twain |

Mr. Bakshi,
Are you at all interested in looking at other artist/filmakers pitches, to produce and or collaborate with in producing and working on directly, and would the technique of rotoscoping ever be an option for you to use again. |
