I mean it is similar to the way Zemeckis and James Cameron are using for animation like in Avatar, Polar Express, Beowulf, Monster House, Christmas Carol and Mars Needs Mom.

American Pop, Fire and Ice and Lord of the Rings did them originally.

Yeah I think its similar, as far as the live naction process, of course they are finishing it up in a 3d digital look, where Bakshis was 2d drawings and flat character colors on top of highly rendered watercolor, or acrylic paintings. I like the old school look alot better, and would love to bring it back. Here something I just recently made. I animated it at 12fps drawing about 6 drawings a second. It econimizes the work while keeping the fluidity.

Hell yeah it looks awesome, but you have to understand that this generation is becoming more and more accustomed to seeing 3d motion capture animation, from movies as well as video games, so maybe it's always looked this good, or close, we just didn't notice it as well because obviously when it first came out, we were not use to it. Rotoscoping is old, and people back in the days were more acustomed to seeing cartoon characters move realistically and appreciating it as well. Even when Disney started caricaturing his characters more, they still moved very realistally because he was always using actuall reference. Film is evolving, when limited t.v. animation came out, Im'sure it was harshly jugded by certain artists, and some probably could not get use to looking at it, but thats hardly the case now. Even live action has evolved into new and different appearances.

Joking?
Zemeckis makes soulless crap. Motion capture is the fanboi version of rotoscoping, it takes all the individual artistic creativity out of the process & makes them a cog in an entertainment machine.
