| Mr. Bakshi, if you ever got the oppertunity to remake Cool World as you invisioned it, would you? I know it will probably never happen, but there are many directors that have remade a movie. |

You know I was thinking about that and I think these top 5 directors could do it
1. Ralph Bakshi
2. Stephen Hopkins
3. Zack Snyder
4. Joe Dante
5. Paul WS Anderson |

I also think Tim Burton could pull off the horror/thriller of Ralph's original script.
[By the way I forgot to put Cool World Fan in the username box of my original post.] |

John Waters once said something along the lines of "only bad movies should be remade."
That sentence can easily be applied as a good reason to remake Cool World -- the way Ralph Bakshi envisioned it, without the interference of schmucks like Frank Mancuso Jr.

You forgot to include me in that list.
Actually, Ralph's the only one to pull this off.
But I'm not too sure he'd want to do it in the first place.
EDIT:

Yes- I would. |
Wow, that answer surprised the hell out of me ... in a good way.
I would like to see Ralph do Cool World the way he originally wanted to do it, if he were given the chance.
BTW, it's not too unusual for directors to remake their own pictures -- Takashi Shimizu recently directed the American remake of his Ju-On series of Japanese horror pictures. He wrote and directed the originals.

| Yeah, Tim BUrton could do a remake of Cool World after all he did pull it off when he did Planet of the Apes. And I alsoi think that Wes Craven can also remake Cool World but here's a suggestion for a Cool World remake; keep Kim Bagsiner as Holli Would let her be in the remake. |

Bakshi actually wanted (from what I've read) Drew Berrymore as Holli Would. _________________ http://circlewithadot.net , http://nuclear-boy.com |

Pretty to look at, pretty to hold, but if you chew the inside of her thigh... man, what a bitch...
I think Basinger was "okay" as Holli. But from folks that worked on the production, I hear that she was a very divisive force on the set and that can only hurt the atmosphere of an ensemble production like Cool World. Sometimes controversy and confrontation are valuable inspirational tools, but othertimes they can be horribly debilitating and distracting. From what I hear, this may have been one of those times. Of course, RB could tell us better from his point of view on that one.
In my personal opinion, I think Miss Barrymore (today's incarnation of her) would make a much better Holli.

| Well, it depends on the director wants Barrymore to play Holli or not, I mean if Tim Burton did a remake of Cool World he would most likely choose Christinna Ricchi. |

| And another question, what would happen if Renny Harlin is involved to do a remake of Cool World? |

Although this may sound like if I'm a bit of a party-poop...
I actually happen 2 enjoy the messy-result of what we know in love as Cool World...Ralph, I hope your not toooo bitter, because the film does have that "Rock Horror Picture Show" feel 2 it (although, ultimately...Cool World is a better film) and also something new...this strange surrealistic oddness that maybe only a drunkard could explain better than I can, this feeling I do not get from other films.
If it was done over, that would b interesting 2 c what could happen, and there could b so many avenues the film can transcend 2....but I'd hate 2 c if someone else would turn it into some kind of polishy Matrix kinda looking thing that we r so often blinded with in the theateres these days...the CGI thing is getting a bit way out of hand, even in animation, and I could easily c some cocky director adding all this cheesy crap that could drown the film...Cool World wouldn't need that stuff because the film is already increadibly atmospheric. Besides, imagine all those characters getting makeovers...I'm still finding bits of stuff i didn't c last time.
If it was 2 b made over, Ralph should b the one at the control board...the originality will b spared. |
