Hi!

I'm new to the Forum and it's great to see such a fantastic Website about one of my favourite Animation Directors at last!

I've got a question:

on the animation bulletin forum thread about bakshi, wich was posted here before it is mentioned that fritz, heavy and coonskin were made for 300'000 $ each!?! Is this number correct? I've read somewhere else that the budget for this films was about 700'000 to 900'000, so just under a million dollars... If this is true, i only can say respect for mr. bakshi to pull off such great movies with so little money. The only one who does this today is bill plympton. he makes films for about 250'000 $, but he animates all by himself... Of course, the money was more worth in the 70's. Does anybody know, how much it would be by today's Dollars?

Hope you can help me and keep it up! Really great Site!

kind regards

That's a surprise but at least Ralph Bakshi's early films became hits.

Fritz the Cat is the only one of the three that we actually know was successful. According to Wikipedia, Heavy Traffic wasn't a hit. Coonskin was pulled out of theaters by Paramount after several protests from C.O.R.E., so we know that that film wasn't a hit (though it could have been if those idiots actually watched the film).

Since Heavy Traffic wasn't a hit, how much did it made?
