Interview by Daniel Robert Epstein, contributing editor
Ralph Bakshi has long been hailed as a genius that never got his due. Throughout his long career of making animated films such as Fritz the Cat, The Lord of the Rings, Fire and Ice, Heavy Traffic and many more, Bakshi has fought against an oppressive studio system. Now, with the new renaissance in animation - more specifically adult animation - Bakshi's star is on the rise again at the age of 66.

Great stuff, buuuuut, he got the ending of LorR backwards. His original ending had Frodo and Sam going off, but the studio switched it and released it with the helm's deep battle. That's the version that's out now, but unless every draft of the screenplay I've seen is bass-ackwards (as well as everything else I've read!), I think he just accidentally swapped the two in that interview.
Fantastic interview, though! I'm really excited about Coney Island which seems to be growing every time I hear about it!!

Thanks so much for posting this Victoria!
I am so excited I think I might explode...*head begins to swell then bursts forth in an extravaganza of Bakshi characters and fireworks*... whew... that was weird.
Thanks Again,

I really enjoyed reading this interview. I can't wait for Bakshi's new film to be released and am looking forward to the Wizard's II comic as well. I think it's funny how Homer Simpson is based off Angie from Heavy Traffic. I never thought about it before, but now that I do I agree that the two are a lot alike!
